Do you really ever look at your own website?

My team and I spend many hours a week looking at company websites as we research our companies for the Best of the Best. We often say, “Do these business owners ever look at what is on their web site?” So often we see contractors for example who post photos of a job site that looks like a tornado hit the place. We see lots of reviews posted from people trying to sell cryptocurrency in the review section. We see tons of spelling and grammar errors on their websites. We always see really old content. Nobody cares if your company won an award in 2012 when it is 2023.

If you have a video on your site, you should make sure the video plays when someone clicks on the play button. Make sure there is a caption that gives viewers a very clear direction like this: Please click on our awesome video below to learn more about our National Best of the Best Award. Never assume the person looking at your website will just see the video and click on it. You have to alert them to the video and give them direction to click on it, or they might not.

I urge you to look at your website often, at least a few times a week. If for no other reason, you want to check that site often to make sure it is up and running just fine as it should be.

Never underestimate the power of your website. There are so many other things that people look at these days when they are considering hiring a company for any service, but almost every customer you get winds up on your website before they ever dial your number. That website is still your first impression, make it a great one.
